iPhone 14 Pro Max world’s best-selling smartphone in 2023, no Galaxy S23 models on the list: Canalys report

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple has the most number of smartphones in the Canalys best-selling smartphones in 2023 list.
  • iPhone 14 Pro Max is not just the most-selling iPhone but also the best-selling phone in 2023.
  • Samsung has 3 Galaxy phones in the list.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

In 2023, Apple surpassed Samsung to claim the title of the world’s leading smartphone-selling brand. The top-selling model was the iPhone 14 Pro Max, and both the iPhone 14 series and iPhone 15 series phones secured several spots in the top ten list. Let’s explore the complete list and see the positions of Samsung and other brand phones, i.e. if they are present at all.

iPhone leads the World’s Top 10 shipped smartphones in 2023

As already mentioned, 2022’s iPhone 14 Pro Max (review) was the most-selling smartphone in 2023 with 34 million units. Possibly, the discounted rate after the launch of the new iPhone series helped it secure this record. Interestingly enough, the presence of a previous-gen design, specs and lightning port didn’t stop people from buying this model.

The other Apple iPhone 14-series models in the list include the iPhone 14 (29 million) in 3rd position and the iPhone 14 Pro (29 million) in 4th position.Even older iPhone 13 has also managed to garner 23 million sales and is sitting at the 5th spot.As you may be wondering, the newer iPhone 15 series has also done well although they just launched a couple of months back in September 2023. The iPhone 15 Pro Max (review) is on the 2nd spot in the list with 33 million units sold, just a million shy from the top contender’s record.

The iPhone 15 Pro is in the 7th position with 21 million units shipped and the iPhone 15 is in the 10th position with 17 million units sold.

We also note that neither iPhone 14 Plus nor iPhone 15 Plus has done well compared to the other iPhones.

Best-selling Samsung phones in 2023 on the list

Although other smartphone brands fail to make the cut, Samsung has at least three Galaxy phones on the list. There is the Galaxy A14 4G with 21 million units sold in the 6th position, the Galaxy A54 with 20 million in the 8th position and Galaxy A14 5G with 19 million units sold in the 9th position. This also shows that at the lower-end people have chosen a 4G phone over a 5G phone.

Surprisingly, no Galaxy S23 phones in the list. Hopefully, things change for the Galaxy S24 series with the Galaxy AI features and other upgrades.
