Apple claims iPhone 15 series battery has double the lifespan compared to previous models

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Apple has revealed that the iPhone 15 series has double the lifespan compared to previous models.
  • The new iPhone 15 series would retain up to 80 percent of their original capacity after 1000 complete charge cycles.
  • Apple is investigating older iPhone models to see if their charge cycle counts are correct.

Apple has unveiled some new news regarding the battery of the iPhone 15 series smartphones. The brand will be updating the battery life cycle ratings for the iPhone 15 series due to their new testing results. The iPhone 15 series smartphone batteries will last twice as long compared to the previous entries. Check out the details below:

Apple iPhone 15 series has a longer battery lifespan

  • According to a reportby 9to5Mac, Apple has shared that the iPhone 15 series has a longer lifespan compared to the previous lineup.
  • Apple initially revealed that the iPhone 15’s battery would retain up to 80 percent of its original capacity after 500 complete charge cycles.
  • Apple has now updated the information saying that the iPhone 15 can retain 80 percent of its original capacity at 1000 complete charge cycles.
  • The change in battery cycle lifespan only applies to the iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
  • Apple credits this improvement to “continued updates to battery components and power management systems over the years.”
  • Apple is investigating earlier models to confirm if the charge cycle counts are correct.
  • iPhone 15 series users can check their battery’s charge cycle count in the Settings app.

Some factors to consider

It is important to note that Apple’s battery retention applies only under ideal conditions, and a lot of other factors, such as extreme temperatures, charging habits, can contribute to battery degradation. We also aren’t privy to Apple’s testing methods, and as of now, there is no way to verify these claims. It is unclear whether these test results would translate suitably into real-life usage.

Another important factor to consider is that, if the iPhone 15 series represents such a significant improvement, why was it not mentioned in Apple’s iPhone 15 presentation? The EU will soon begin assigning gadget manufacturers a grade based on their energy efficiency and battery longevity, which will take effect in June 2025. It is likely that Apple has altered its testing convention to comply with the energy labelling requirements of the European Union.
