Mahindra’s first electric SUV XUV400 launched in India at Rs 15.99 lakh: fastest India-made electric car

Mahindra has launched the Mahindra XUV400 compact EV SUV in India for an introductory price of Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The XUV400 is Mahindra’s first mainstream EV product aimed at the market that is currently dominated by the Tata Nexon EV Prime and the Tata Nexon EV MAX. The XUV400 also happens to be the fastest made-in-India electric car,  capable of 0 to 100 kmph in 8.3 seconds and reaching a top speed of 150 kmph.

The Mahindra XUV400 EV boasts of a 456km claimed range. The vehicle also gets 7.2kW fast charging capability and gets features such as a sunroof, a 7-inch infotainment system, 6 airbags, all-wheel disc brakes, etc. The vehicle competes against the Hyundai Kona EV, and the MG ZS EV that sit on the segment above.

Mahindra XUV400 price, availability

The Mahindra XUV400 has been launched in India at an introductory price of Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom) in India. The vehicle gets three variants – EC, EC with 7.2kW charging and EL. The EC with basic 3.3kW charging starts at Rs 15.99 lakh (ex-showroom) while the same variant with 7.2kW charging commands a price of Rs 16.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The range-topping EL variant gets a sticker price of Rs 18.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The prices are valid for the first 5,000 bookings post which the company could hike the prices.

The XUV400 will be offered in Arctic Blue, Everest White, Napoli Black, Infinity Blue, and Galaxy Grey colour options. Mahindra will start bookings for the XUV400 from January 26th 2023 and deliveries are expected to commence from March 2023.

Mahindra XUV400 gets two battery pack options, 34.5kWh and 39.4kWh, both of which are paired to a front-mounted 150hp (310Nm) electric motor. The smaller 34.5kWh battery pack claims a range of 375km while the larger 39.4kWh battery pack returns 456km of range on a single charge. The XUV400 goes from 0 to 100kmph in 8.3 seconds and sprints to a top speed of 150kmph. The EV gets 3 driving modes Fun, Fast and Fearless which alter the throttle response and steering input.

The 7.2kW charger helps the XUV400 juice up from 0 to 100 percent in 6 hours and 30 minutes and can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in just 50 minutes. The XUV400 gets features such as 7-inch infotainment with AdrenoX software, a sunroof, 6 airbags, ISOFIX child seat mounts, connected car tech, disc brakes on all four wheels, alloy wheels, LED DRLs, leatherette seats, etc.
