Samsung’s upcoming flagships have been in the news cycle quite a bit thanks to various leaks ahead of launch later this month. The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, which is Samsung’s top-of-the-line phone for the year, is expected to drop a major design element that we’ve seen in Samsung phones for at least eight years now. Here’s a confirmation for it.
The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra leaked in a video
While we’ve already seen multiple images of the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, this is the first time we’re seeing the device in action in a video. The leak shows off the flat display of the device up-close and confirms that Samsung is indeed giving up on curved displays for its flagship devices.
The move is not surprising but might disappoint some loyal fans. Curved displays were mostly an aesthetic addition to phones, resulting in durability issues. Curved screens are prone to cracks, and a screen protector is harder to find. Further, curved displays also result in the phone having a thinner frame.
Even though Samsung and Google flagship phones have been moving away from curved displays, Chinese smartphone makers continue to offer it on their latest phones. Recent examples would be the Vivo X100 Pro, OPPO Find X7 Ultra and the OnePlus 12.
Meanwhile, brands like Xiaomi and HONOR are going a step ahead and opting for quad-curved displays. Xiaomi’s latest Redmi Note 13 series has brought curved displays to its midrange phones in India for the first time.
Samsung Galaxy S24 series will launch globally on February 17th. A physical event will take place in the US. The South Korean conglomerate has already started taking pre-reservations for the series in India. It is expected to be on sale just a week after the launch event as the company focuses on improving its Q1 2024 revenues.
